Thinking about Christmas

Christmas is rapidly approaching, and I don't have any plans for what to do or not to do. When that happens, which is fairly often, I tend to stay where I'm at, so it looks like I'll be spending Christmas at the City of Rocks.

There's nothing wrong with that of course, I suppose this is as good a place as any. The only place I would want to be is in Denver with my family, but traveling during the holidays, I can't think of any place else that would be better than where I am. I've got electricity, my campsite is quiet and peaceful, I have a beautiful view, and at four dollars a night, it's very affordable.

I don't have anything planned for Christmas; it's pretty much just like a regular day. I'm thinking about driving the 20 miles to Walmart in Silver City, New Mexico, and buying some kind of a Christmas dinner, but so far, I haven't scraped up enough ambition to make the trip.

I noticed the weather in the Denver area where my family lives is almost the same as at the City of Rocks State Park where I am! Which is depressing considering that I do this traveling to get out of the cold. One of the problems this year is that I'm trying to hang around New Mexico to get the most out of my annual camping pass, and the area I'm at is about 5000 feet in altitude, which is very similar to what it is near Denver. But in another week or two, I'll be in Arizona, and the temperatures there are way warmer than they are here, especially when I get to where the Saguaros live.

While staring into space the other night, which I do more often than you might Imagine, I spotted this fast-moving object flying by which I immediately recognized as an intergalactic ship of some kind crossing the Milky Way as a shortcut to get to Alpha Centauri.

It was moving at the speed of light, so I didn't see it for very long but it was long enough to tell that it was huge, plenty big enough to hold thousands of human-sized people, although I doubt there were humans aboard, as it silently went on its journey that will probably last millions of light years in space-time.

It was an epic sight that I shall always remember, knowing that other intelligent beings are out there just waiting to be discovered.

Oops! nevermind, it was just my neighbors shelter over his picnic table
