Christmas day
Due to my current lifestyle, today was exactly like yesterday and the day before that.
As far as I can tell, nobody in the City of Rocks State Park came and went. I guess no one wants to be on the road during Christmas day if they can possibly help it. In fact, I've pretty much had the same neighbors since I got here, except the campsite next to me is a first-come, first-serve site, and it gets a new camper every few days.
Walking around, it looks like the campground is about half full, which is actually more campers than I thought would be here. On a family-type holiday like Christmas, I figured there would basically be two types of campers here.
1.... People visit their relatives for the holiday, but instead of staying at the relative's house, they stay at a campground.
Number one doesn't seem likely. I would think folks visiting relatives would want to stay close to the relatives, but the City of Rocks is out in the middle of nowhere and is a long drive to get anyplace, so it doesn't seem like this would be a good place to stay while you're visiting relatives.
2.... Or, folks with nowhere else to go are hunkered down here until the holidays are over.
Of course, this is me, which I'm guessing explains why most of the folks are camped here. If you're hunkered down, I suppose this is as good a place as any, but it is pretty far from a Walmart, so going shopping requires some effort.
Nonetheless, I'm happy to be here. The weather's nice and sunny, even though I prefer more clouds. It's warm during the day but in the 30s at night, which is common for desert areas in the winter.
I paid for three more days to be here, so next Friday morning, I should be packed up and on the road to Tombstone, Arizona.

The guy across the street from me is not only a neighbor but one of the hosts at the City of Rocks. And you may notice he has rope lights around his trailer and the whole area.
Mice, ground squirrels, and other rodents can be a problem in an RV, and some folks believe that having lights outside the RV will keep the rodents away. I don’t know if that or any other way works; I just keep some traps handy in case I get one. I’ve never had a mouse in the Lance, but two or three times, I’ve had them in the Arctic Fox.

One-half of the hookup campsites. I’m in one of the two first-come, first-serve hookup campsites. There are four or five first come, first serve campsites amongst the boulders, but you won’t see them on the reservation map that ReserveAmerica gives you on the Internet; when you get to the visitor center, they have a real map with everything on it.
