Do I need a dog?

I woke up just before the sun came up, as is my habit nowadays, and I do that to get a nice sunrise picture, but that was a waste of time this morning. I had high hopes because there were a few clouds in the sky at sunset yesterday, but this morning, the sky had a few scattered clouds, and all I got was a couple of contrails in the sky.

I don't like waking up and getting out of bed early if there are no pictures worth taking because it's still pretty chilly in the mornings, usually in the 40s. This means I have to turn on my factory furnace to take the chill off the camper instead of staying in my warm bed, not burning propane, and letting the sun heat the camper before I crawl out of bed.

You could say that taking snapshots of my area is what gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and that is partially true. We all need a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and when it comes to camping, from what I see going on around me, most people's reason for getting out of bed in the morning is to take their dog for a walk. This is another reason I'm glad I no longer have a dog.

If you have a dog, and I'm speaking from experience here, your life revolves around the dog. Almost everything you do, you must examine what effect it will have on the dog, and plan accordingly. And even though I appreciate the companionship a dog gives, my search for as much freedom as possible in my life doesn’t include walking around a campground picking up dog poop every morning.

This is a brief video of my first boondocking spot when I got to the City of Rocks. It wasn't where I wanted to be, so a couple of days later, I changed to my favorite spot.

There's weird music playing during the video, but I thought it worked because nowadays my "occupation" is full-timing and the song is about loving your occupation, which I obviously do.

Two commercial airliners streak across the New Mexico sky, leaving ice crystals in their wake. One thing is certain: the folks in the window seats have a beautiful view.

But beautiful views or not. I would much rather waddle down the road in the Lance and have the freedom to come and go as I please than live life by an airline schedule.

I took a walk as the sun was setting last night, hoping to see a nice sunset, but it was not to be,.. not enough clouds.

To me, New Mexico looks kind of drab during the day, but when the sun rises or sets, everything changes, and it gets colorful.
