More about the Big Show
Today's sky was blue and cloudless, as it is on most days in the desert. However, the temperature was in the low 70s, and a fairly stiff breeze was blowing, so it wasn't as comfortable as it normally should be.
I'm seeing fewer and fewer RVs in the VFW boondocking area as folks gravitate 80 miles toward Quartzsite to find a spot to stay for the Big Show. The rule of thumb is that the closer you boondock to the big tent, the more crowded it becomes. Ideally, folks want to boondock close enough to the big tent so they can walk to the action because finding a parking spot near the big tent is extremely difficult.
Bear in mind even during the busiest week of the entire year; there are still plenty of areas to boondock around Quartzsite, in fact if you take one of the many dirt roads that slither through the desert and drive away from the paved roads a mile or two you will be amazed at how deserted it is, so there's no problem finding a place to boondock even during the Big Show week.
I need to make sure I go to Walmart here in Yuma because the nearest Walmart in the Quartzsite area is in Parker, which is about 38 miles from Quartzsite, and during the Big Show, it isn’t easy to find a parking space at Walmart. I used to be able to go shopping at the Walmart in Parker and then drive a mile down the road to a casino, spend the night in their parking lot, and come back to Quartzsite the next morning. And that went on for many years until about two years ago when the casino stopped all that and made people pay to boondock in the parking lot. We baby boomers have lost a lot of freedoms folks used to have.

There are several large motorhomes pulling big trailers that usually means those folks are in business.
The trailer behind this motorhome is labeled as an RV repair man, he’s probably on his way to set up shop in Quartzsite.
I’m sure there will be plenty of work there. there are many thousands of RVs in town, and RVs are famous for breaking down, and a lot of the owners are too old to fix things themselves.
The Lance happily ensconced in a perfectly acceptable boondocking spot.
