What I like about Dateland

Looking at yesterday's blog, it appears I got way ahead of myself by talking about where I might be going in a week or two instead of where I'm at today. And that would be Dateland, Arizona.

Dateland has three predominant reasons why I enjoy stopping there, and they are, in no particular order.....

1... There's only one campground in Dateland, and it's never crowded, so I can always find a spot to stay without making reservations.

2... At the single gas station in town, they make date milkshakes that are delicious. Stopping for a date milkshake in Dateland, and yes, they do grow dates in Dateland, has always been a tradition of mine, and since Dateland is out in the middle of the desert, and I'm always here in the wintertime... Believe me, you don't want to be here in the summer! I always find it exciting to stand outside in a T-shirt and drink a date milkshake in the winter. However, I have been reminded that I need to wear more than a T-shirt for legal reasons.

3... I enjoy taking pictures of trains, and Dateland campground has a train track that is literally 50 feet from the campground. And not just any old train tracks, but a major east-west track with trains going by around once an hour. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that having a mile-long freight train go by every hour may have something to do with my always being able to find a camping spot without a reservation.
