A relaxing day

It was another relaxing day at Storrie Lake State Park. I got in some walking, some picture-taking, and even started making a video. I signed up for three days, but it's so peaceful here that I might stay for a couple more. Later in the week, the winds look a little sketchy for travel, so I'll play it by ear and sign up for extra days if needed.

I was hoping that the head ranger here at Storrie Lake would've had more knowledge about what was going on with the State Park price increases. Still, if you think about it, it's the politicians who make decisions like that, and I would imagine the only non-politicians involved in decisions like fees are of a high enough level that they are little more than politicians themselves and have to play the political game if they want to keep their phony baloney jobs.

I'm pretty sure I will head for the Bosque Del Apache when I leave here. Since I didn't go to Alamosa this Fall to see the Sandhill cranes, I've got a real desire to get down to the Bosque before December when it starts getting crowded with real professional photographers and pretend photographers like me.

I always enjoy visiting the Cranes, although it does involve me having to get up before dawn, during the coldest part of the day, and standing around freezing my nether regions off trying to get a less embarrassing picture than I usually get. And even though that doesn't sound like fun to me or anybody else, I prefer to think of it as a challenge, making me feel like I'm living my life and not just watching it go by.

But I'll tell you what, after standing next to the cold dark lake, teeming with Sandhill cranes and their incessant squawking, croaking, or whatever you call it for a couple of hours, with my fingers immobilized, especially my picture-snapping finger, and no feeling left in my feet, when I finally waddle my way back to the camper and cook up some bacon and eggs for breakfast... My cooking never tasted better.

The view from my campsite. There are four separate camping areas here at Storrie Lake, and I’m Lucky enough to have a great campsite—I’m the only one in this area. The main camping area is full of people, and I’m off by myself, exactly where I want to be.

The very blue Storrie Lake. It’s hard to tell the sky from the Lake.

The snow is almost gone at Storrie Lake state Park, but it’s still pretty chilly, mostly 50s in the daytime and 30s at night.
