Another day of R and R
I'm starting to see a pattern developing here. Yesterday, I got up early and spent all day walking and driving while watching and taking pictures of the birds. Now I'm tuckered out and in desperate need of a break, so today, I spent most of the day relaxing. As I said, there appears to be a pattern developing while living at the Bosque.
Taking pictures of the birds at the Bosque is the only thing to do around here. The town of Socorro is about 20 miles north of here, and there is normal town stuff like Walmart and restaurants, but a 40-mile round-trip to buy a few groceries is not my idea of fun, so that doesn't leave much to do here except take pictures of birds.
Fortunately, I enjoy taking pictures of birds or most anything else, so I do stay fairly busy. However, I doubt I could stay here for more than a week and still enjoy taking pictures every day.
I'm probably going to Elephant Butte State Park near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico when I leave here. Elephant Butte has always been one of my favorite places to stay. If you look at most of the places I go, they usually have one thing in common: they have so much boondocking available that I can always find a spot to stay, no matter how busy the place is. And having a dozen or so places like that in Arizona and New Mexico takes a lot of stress off of me by not having to worry about finding a place to stay no matter what’s going on.
As I travel around New Mexico, visiting the various state parks, it feels like I'm having a farewell tour of the state parks that I've enjoyed so much over the years because when they raise all the camping fees, New Mexico may be off of my list of places to go.
