It’s getting about that time.
In just a few more weeks, I'll be heading South, first to New Mexico and then to Arizona, where I'll spend most of the winter.
Daytime temperatures are still pretty comfortable, but at night, they're getting down into the low 40s. So it won't be long before I need to break out my winter coat and put away the T-shirts until I'm much further South.
It's a good thing it's starting to get chilly around here because when the weather is as beautiful as it has been, it's difficult to get in the traveling mood. It's hard to go anywhere and beat the weather of Colorado in the Fall. But all it takes is a little bit of snow, or sometimes just the prediction of snow, and I'm suddenly in the mood to put on my traveling shoes and mosey down south.
It's hard to leave my family and the good home cooking, but I don't think I would be much fun to be around if I had to deal with snow and ice regularly, and that's the way it would be if I stayed here.
It would make some sense if I was into winter sports and just loved to strap a couple of boards to my feet and go sliding down a mountain at 80 miles an hour, but for some reason, that doesn't sound like fun to me, don't know why, there was a time when it did. But that time has passed as I've grown older and wiser, and now I much prefer sitting in the shade of a Saguaro cactus, contemplating how my life used to be stressful when I had to shovel ice and snow off the driveway to drive down an icy road to go to work.
