Back at the City of Rocks State Park

At about 9 o'clock this morning, I hopped in the truck and headed for the Walmart in Deming. Having finally settled on returning to the City of Rocks State Park and not knowing how long I might stay there, I bought enough groceries to last a while.

The refrigerator is mostly my limiting factor in how often I buy groceries; it's just not big enough to hold weeks' worth of food like the Arctic Fox does.

I topped up my fuel tank, at $3.09 for diesel, and filled up an empty propane tank at $3.80 a gallon.

I pulled into the City of Rocks State Park about an hour later, and lucky, lucky me, there was a first-come, first-served electric site open. So not only did I not have to pay a reservation fee, but I could stay here as long as I wanted, not more than two weeks, for a four-dollar-a-night electric fee.

As I said, I don't know how long I will be at the City of Rocks. I might stay here until after Christmas or leave before Christmas, but because of all the empty campsites here, I don't have to have any plans. I'll stay until I feel like leaving.

But I don’t worry, I'll be happy no matter where I'm at. As I always say, happiness is a state of mind, not a location, so I'm happy no matter where I end up—as long as I don't have to listen to barking dogs or NOISY GENERATORS.

My hookup campsite at City of Rocks State Park. I’m so lucky I found a vacant, first-come, first-served site with hookups, which will probably influence how long I stay here.

The hookup campground at City of Rocks. No, it’s not as cool as boondocking in the boulders, but having electricity for four dollars a night is also pretty cool, and I can walk to the boulders.

There's a walking path right across the street from my campsite into the boulders. On the right-hand side, where the path is heading, you’ll see a black-colored travel trailer in the background. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a black trailer before, but if they're heading for the Arizona desert, they will be in for a very warm surprise.
