Back in Tombstone Arizona

Tombstone hasn't changed since I was here this winter. It's hotter and drier, which is a good thing because I remember it being pretty darn cold last time I was here.

Hardly anyone is in the $10-a-night boondocking RV Park, so I have plenty of room to spread out. It was kind of breezy when I got here, and the weather forecast is calling for three windy days in a row, which doesn't sound good for driving, but I'll just have to see. I figured I would spend about two days here in Tombstone and then head east to Rock Hound State Park near Deming, New Mexico.

I saw diesel fuel in Benson, Arizona, as I was passing through at $3.25 a gallon, the cheapest I’ve seen for a while. It was a mixed bag at the Walmart in Benson; some things were higher, and some things, like eggs, were $5.25 a dozen. But you have to be careful about some groceries; I noticed some things had the same package but fewer ounces in it. Walmart is very helpful about posting the amount that each ounce cost in a package, but the manufacturers are good at adjusting the bottom of their plastic containers so it looks like you're getting the same amount your used to but if you look carefully on the label you can see you're a couple of ounces short of what you used to get.

We were used to believing that large packages cost less than small packages of the same thing. When I had a dog, his food came in 25-pound and 50-pound bags. I would always grab the big bag, thinking it was cheaper, but thanks to Walmart's pricing information, I found out the big bag actually cost more than the two little bags of exactly the same food.

Due to the wind, I haven’t been able to walk around town to take some pictures yet, but I did take this picture of myself boondocking at the boondocking RV Park.

The West is known for its wind, and it looks like I’m facing three days of it. But I don’t think it will dictate when I leave Tombstone because it’s predicted to be a tailwind for me. And anyone who’s ever driven an RV knows the value of a good tailwind.
