The archery contest

Since I wanted to stay close to the archery contest yesterday, but I needed to go to the grocery store, I went to Albertsons, a grocery store located only a mile or two from the Ben Avery gun range. Normally, I don't shop at Albertsons because it's so expensive, but sometimes I'll walk in the door of Albertsons so that people will see me and think I'm rich. However, when no one's looking, I'll get back in my truck and head to Walmart.

But this time, I didn't want to drive the 5 miles to Walmart, so I picked up a few things at Albertsons that I was missing, and I'll go to Walmart for everything else as soon as a fleeting flash of ambition strikes me.

A dozen eggs cost half as much at Albertsons as they did in Wickenburg a couple of weeks ago, which was shocking to me. I figured if Albertson has eggs for five dollars and change, they must be giving them away at Walmart. Of course, there were many items I considered that were almost double the price Walmart charges, so I passed on all of those. Most of those things I could live without anyway.

After shopping, I stopped at the gas station in the Albertson's parking lot and filled up with diesel fuel at $3.79 a gallon. It appears that prices are decreasing now, which is a welcome development. Then I drove over to Ben Avery and watched some more archery.

It started to cloud up, and the wind picked up a bit, so I hot-footed it back to the Arizona trust lands, where I'm boondocked and hunkered down until the sun came out again.

Sunrise this morning. There weren't enough clouds to make it interesting, but sometimes, even a ho-hum sunrise is enough to start your day off with a smile.

The archery target butts lined up and waiting for arrows to head their way. And yes there actually called target butts, and everyone gets their own butt to shoot at, which is kinda important, because you don't want to shoot at your neighbors butt, since you might lower your neighbors score if there's a couple of extra arrows sticking in his butt that he may not have noticed.

They’re just practicing right now. Mostly making sure they know which butt to shoot at.

They sure have a lot of weird stuff hanging on their bows. When I was shooting, the only weird thing hanging on my bow was me.

I think I saw just as many ladies in the contest as men. I don't know if they have a men's class and a ladies class, they probably do, but it seems to me males and females should be able to aim a bow the same no matter what gender they are.

However, when my oldest son was shooting trap professionally, they had both male and female classes, although I'm unsure how aiming a shotgun would differ for males and females. It seems to me that females generally have better hand-eye coordination than males, so if anything, that would give them an advantage.
