Outdoor Expo
I had a good time walking around the Arizona Outdoor Expo today, and it was a LOT of walking. But whenever I felt like it, I could mosey over to the camper and take a break.
The Expo officially started at 9 AM, and I got the truck parked at about eight, so I just sat in the camper with a cup of coffee and made breakfast. Home truly is where I park it.
There was a lot to see today, and I probably didn't see it all as it's spread out in giant tents and the shooting range itself where, for a few bucks, you can shoot different kinds of guns on display by several gun dealers and manufacturers.
When you're a shooter, like I used to be, you might shoot thousands of rounds a year of various calibers, and that can get very expensive. One way to reduce the cost of shooting is to make your own ammunition, which is relatively easy to do, provided you have the right equipment.
And for those of you who like to reload ammunition as I did, the most popular manufacturer of reloading equipment is ‘‘Dillon Precision’’ located right here in Phoenix. And they had a very popular display at the Expo. Dillon Precision also holds military contracts for providing machine guns to the military, and the Ben Avery gun range is where they test their machine guns to ensure they function properly.
The Expo will continue through tomorrow, and although I would like to spend more time there, my feet are protesting and demanding a day off.
It was a little misty this morning, but it all burned off by the time I got to the Expo.
I got to the parking lot about 8 a.m., and there was hardly anyone there. Around 8:30, folks started coming in and lining up, waiting for the event to start at 9 o'clock.
I'm not sure why people want to stand in line like this. When it opens at nine, there's nothing happening that isn't happening all day for the next two days.
But seeing the line of humanity taking shape, I put down my coffee cup and walked outside to take this picture. You can see the Lance on the far right. I made some breakfast and got into the Expo at about 10 o'clock.
This is just a small part of the Expo area. Like I said, there was a lot of walking involved.
A lot of four-wheel-drive clubs were represented, and if you wanted to, they would take you on their homemade off-road course.
There were a lot of mounted shooters, so many that two arenas were open for all the shooters.
These covered wagons were popular for carrying the urchins around in due to the amount of walking involved. I had hoped to see someone pushing a covered wagon big enough for me to fit in, but no such luck.
