I’m gone like a summer breeze.

I crawled out of bed this morning, realizing that it was time for me to leave. I could've gone yesterday, but I wasn't in the mood. But for some reason, this morning, I was.

It's about a 3 1/2-hour drive from Ajo to Tombstone, Arizona, which is right at the limit of how far I want to drive in a day. In the past, I didn't have to make a long drive like that because I would stop for a night or two at Picacho Peak State Park, and then I would mosey down the interstate to the Pima County Fairgrounds, where I would rest up for a night or two before making the final 50-mile jump to Tombstone.

But since both Picacho Peak State Park and the Pima County Fairgrounds have priced me out of boondocking at their establishments, I have been forced to drive 235 miles to my Tombstone destination without a couple of overnight rest stops.

Speaking of rest stops, when I lived in Miami, it became well-known that Florida's rest stops, especially along the interstate, were some of the most dangerous places in the entire state. The brief times I spent at rest stops convinced me that was true. So that turned me against all Florida rest stops, and I usually don’t feel safe sleeping in one, no matter where I am.

Now, if I wanted to stop, there are several large name-brand truck stops along the way, such as Loves and Pilot, that I drive by on the interstate. I could boondock for free in their parking lot, and that would be a plan "B" if I didn't feel like driving all the way to Tombstone,
