Inverter problems

Since I had electronic problems yesterday and couldn't post a blog for the day, I did what I normally do: keep writing my blog even though I can't post it until I fix my problems. So, you're looking at a blog post from yesterday that I couldn't send. So, my blog post may be behind for a day or two until I get everything caught up.

You know Iā€™m always talking about overcoming the little obstacles that full-timers face? And is it definitely worse for boondockers. Well, yesterday, my camper's inverter quit working. For those who may not know, the inverter is what changes the DC power coming from the solar panels and into the batteries into AC power that I can plug things like computers into, not to mention all the various batteries for my gadgets, such as cell phones, camera batteries, Wi-Fi gadgetry, flashlights, and other electrical stuff that needs charging.

The inverter that I put in the camper is a Kreger 1100-watt inverter that was fairly inexpensive. However, cheap is not a good sign for an inverter that will be used daily, often 24 hours a day, for years. The inverter I installed in the Arctic Fox cost four times as much as the one in the Lance, and the Arctic Fox is still working fine.

Fortunately, I have a cheap Walmart backup inverter that I'm using until I can get a replacement one. The problem with the backup inverter is it's only 750 watts, which is not powerful enough to run my 17-inch Asus laptop, so I have to do everything with my 13-inch Asus laptop. Even that is not working well, and it doesn't have the power to work on pictures for my blog, it does have enough power to write my blog and put it on the Internet, which is why you're able to read this right now, but dealing with the pictures is beyond the poor little inverter critters capacity.

I'm looking into solutions to this problem and will write about them tomorrow.
