things I’ve done To make my life easier in the future

As I said, I'm trying to do the most important things: first, improving things that may prevent me from comfortably boondocking or even stopping me from camping. So here are some of the things I've done or will do in the future.

Moving my propane tank to a lower, more accessible position was definitely one of the things I needed to do. Lifting the full tank head high was going to be a major problem in the future, but now I think I've made it easy enough that I've future-proofed my propane tank problems.

Out of deference to my 2007 GMC diesel truck, which has 205,000 miles on it, I have forced myself to get out of the habit of driving somewhere just because I'm bored. I don't know how long this truck will last, but I figure the fewer miles I put on it, the better, so I've stopped just driving here and there because I have nothing better to do.

For some reason, old geezers like to climb up on shaky ladders or walk around on roofs; long after they’ve reached an age, they no longer can accomplish something they used to do safely all the time. So, I have done some things to the roof of the Lance that may preclude me from ever having to climb up there again by using EternaBond tape to cover things that could become possible leaks. The Lance is the fifth RV that I've used EternaBond tape on, and I have never had a leak on anything that had EternaBond tape on it and the no maintenance feature of EternaBond tape means fewer trips to the roof or time spent on a shaky ladder.

It's no big deal, but I replaced the taillights and brake lights on the Lance with LEDs because they are much brighter and, therefore, safer. Since they seldom burn out and need replacement like regular 12-volt bulbs, that's just one less thing I have to worry about.

My wife made insulated and lightproof drapes for the windows in the Lance, and I made window coverings out of "Reflectix" to fit each window, which helps keep the heat in during the winter and the heat out during the summer. By the way, products like Reflectix mostly work on windows with an air space between them and the window because it doesn't actually work as an insulator. All that saves me money on propane during the winter. And keeping out the hot sun during the summer. So as long as I stay in low humidity areas in the Summer, such as Colorado, I can survive without air conditioning.

I've done other things and plan to do more in the future. Hopefully, I'll have everything finished before I become so decrepit that I won't be able to do anything useful, which will probably be next Tuesday at the rate I'm going.

It’s kind of hilly around here, but it is in the foothills.
