I Changed locations
When I got up this morning, I felt that I needed a new place to take pictures, so I moved from my favorite spot to a lower area overlooking the beach. When I'm staying at a place like Elephant Butte State Park, which has so many boondocking areas, I like to change areas every now and then just to get a different view. The two places that give me the most opportunity to do that are Quartzsite, Arizona, and Elephant Butte State Park.
Quartzsite is the most obvious. With endless acres of BLM land available, you can be camped in the desert or, in 10 minutes, in the mountains. So, Quartzsite is where I feel I can always find an interesting spot to stay in and be around people if I want at the LTVAs or up in the hills by myself.
Elephant Butte State Park is similar but not nearly as big. It is big enough that it offers me half a dozen places to boondock that I really enjoy and that have different views. With photography as my only hobby, various views are important to me.
As far as the crowd goes this Thanksgiving holiday….there hasn’t been any. In my previous experience, there were no more people here than on an average weekend in the winter, and that’s not very many. I’ll probably be at the City of Rocks State Park early next week, and it will be interesting to see if that place is crowded or not because they normally are this time of year.
