They charged how much for this?
Now that the new blog is out of the way and mostly working, even though I still want to change some things, I can now talk about how my brief mini-vacation went.
I was very disappointed, to say the least when an official who takes care of Antero Reservoir came driving up just before dark and asked me if I had paid to camp here. I told him I had read on the Internet that it was free boondocking, and he let me know that they had started charging to camp there since last May.
The timing for this bit of information was rather bad since it was getting dark, and I don't drive at night, so having no place else that I knew about to go in the area, I had to go to the website that he told me about and was charged the princely sum of $29 on my credit card.
$29 for one night of boondocking with no hookups at a place where no one on the Internet realized that they had started charging to camp. Now it wasn't that guy's fault, of course, he just worked there, but he was the only one I could talk to, so I told him that I was stuck there for the night, but this would be the last time he would ever see me at this place again. So I got up the next morning in the freezing cold, and I mean that literally and headed toward Colorado Springs to spend the night in the local Bass Pro shop parking lot... Which, by the way, had no hookups, the same as last night, but it was free.
I have just about given up on camping in Colorado. The state parks here are outrageously priced, and last year, I noticed that some places that used to be free are now charging, and Antero Reservoir is just one of the latest.
It seemed like something was going on with all these suspiciously similar price increases. I'm unsure what it is, but I'll discuss it again tomorrow.
