Boondocking near Ben Avery gun range

When I crawled out of bed at 7 a.m. this morning, I finally made up my mind to head for some Arizona trust lands two or three miles from the Ben Avery shooting range and boondock there for a few days while visiting the "End of Trail" cowboy shoot at Ben Avery.

Life was much better when I boondocked at Ben Avery because I could walk to where the cowboys were shooting. But I'm being steadily priced out of places that charge for boondocking, including Ben Avery; as the state governments need more and more money, fees for many things are increasing.

I'll spend a few days watching the End of Trail shoot, shopping at the nearby Walmart and Home Depot, and figuring out where I want to go and what I want to do next week. And my options seem to be;

ONE… Stay longer in the Phoenix area, enjoying the ease of shopping but putting up with the downsides of being near a big city, such as crowds and traffic.

TWO… I can head back to Wickenburg, where there are many things I can do, and I enjoy the cowboy ambiance. But groceries and diesel fuel are more expensive.

THREE… I can head south from Phoenix, such as to Ajo, Arizona, and try to get some pictures of the Air Force jets flying low over the adjoining bombing range.

FOUR… Or, of course, I can do something that hasn't even crossed my mind yet.

Since I don't know which things I want to do, I will probably do what I usually do: stay where I am until I wake up one morning wanting to be somewhere else. I understand that doesn't work for everyone, and most normal people wouldn't want to live that way. But it gives me a sense of freedom I never knew existed until I became a boondocking full-timer.

Last night’s sunset at my boondocking spot just outside of Wickenburg Arizona.

My current boondocking spot on Arizona trust land is a few miles from Ben Avery’s gun range.

Some of my boondocking neighbors. I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again; there’s hardly any RVs here compared to the way it used to be.

Hundreds of acres of Arizona trust lands are across the road from where I’m currently boondocking. In the past couple of years, this area has always had so many RVs that it looked like an RV Park, and now there’s hardly any….. And since I’m saying that about almost every place I’ve been, It’s beginning to make me wonder, what’s going on?
