Fooling around with my blog, I don’t think it will stay this way
It was a quiet day today, mostly just relaxing. One of these days, I need to drive the 4 miles into Walmart and pick up a few groceries.
The weather has been very nice, but yesterday afternoon, it got pretty windy, and that stirred up a lot of dust. I even got to see a couple of dust devils that spun their way through the desert. They were perfectly harmless, but they could certainly wreak havoc on any RV awnings that were left out.
And speaking of the weather, the 10-day forecast for Phoenix, which is where I happen to be, is calling for a couple of days of slightly over 100° late next week, which is somewhat shocking since I'm used to temperatures in the 70s and 80s. And in Denver, the weather forecast is calling for snow on Friday.
Now, there are a couple of things that can save me from temperatures like that.
First of all, weather forecasts that far away are almost always wrong, being more about educated guesses than reality.
The humidity will be in the single digits, which makes high temperatures more tolerable.
Phoenix is one of the hotter places in Arizona; Yuma, without a doubt, is one of the hottest places I’ve ever been. So, just going to a different town can make a big difference.
And since I'm highly mobile, I could shoot across Arizona and into New Mexico, where it's a lot cooler.
However, being lazy, I'll probably ignore it and complain about it loud and long once I have to deal with it.

This wooden tower is called a headframe, also known as a gallows frame, and supports whatever or whoever is going up and down in the shaft. In this case, it's a large metal bucket used to haul ore up from the shaft. There is supposed to be a large sheave wheel at the top of this head frame, through which the cable passes, but this appears to be a mockup, so it’s missing.
This is called a cage and is what miners are hauled up and down In the mineshaft.
This Sonoran Desert Puffin is disguised as an average-looking desert bird; this disguise works exceptionally well because all the birds in the desert look exactly the same, except for the hummingbird, which resembles a crow.
My favorite boondocking area in Wickenburg, Arizona
About daybreak, while peacefully sipping a cup of coffee, I heard the unmistakable roar of a propane blower on a hot air balloon. I poked my head outside to see what was going on, and nothing was happening except a balloon was slowly and silently drifting overhead. I waved, and they waved back. All of which seemed like a perfect start to my day.
