Clouds

It's a gloomy rainy day today. Rain in the desert is different from everyone else's rain. It falls out of the sky halfheartedly in meager amounts, almost as if it can't make up its mind if it wants to rain at all. In a lot of places, rain comes down as if poured from a bucket, but in the desert, it slowly trickles from the sky, and you have to stand outside for a little while before you ever realize it's raining.

So, for me, rain is not the problem; it’s the thick clouds that usually accompany it. I actually like clouds; they're good for taking pictures, but the clouds that bring the rain are a problem. They not only block up the sky, so the sunrises and sunsets are hardly worth taking a picture of, but worse, I get little or no solar charging from my panels, and that isn’t good on several levels.

First of all, since it's raining, I'm stuck inside the camper for the day. And since I'm stuck inside the camper, I tend to use my computers more for entertainment, which uses more battery power, which is not being replenished because of the thick rain clouds.

It can get pretty chilly in the desert without sunshine to warm things up. After all, it is winter, and all that beautiful sunshine keeps the desert warm enough for me to be perfectly comfortable living there. But with the rain clouds blocking the sunshine, it gets chilly enough that I have to turn on my factory furnace every once in a while to warm things up—things like me!

To make matters worse, those thick rain clouds also increase the humidity to the point that what would normally feel a little chilly to me now feels downright cold. Keep in mind that I'm 78 years old, so it doesn't take much chilly weather and high humidity to make an old geezer like me uncomfortable.

But I'm not complaining; it’s just one of the challenges that boondockers face every once in a while, but it's worth it to enjoy the freedom of the boondocker's lifestyle.

The mounted shooters use black powder in their guns, no bullets; the burning black powder breaks the balloons.

These folks wanted me to take their picture; I don’t know why. They didn’t even want me to give them the picture; they just wanted me to take it.

There either waiting to shoot or get in the porta-potty; I forget which.

I think women should go back to using parasols; the sun Is not good for your skin.
