I’ve been forced to make plans just like normal people…. I’m sorry.

My truck's oil life indicator tells me I only have 2% of my expensive synthetic motor oils life left. So I called around today and found that, probably due to the crowds of people staying in Quartzsite, the earliest I can get my oil changed is next Tuesday in Parker, Arizona.

Parker is about 35 miles north of Quartzsite and near the Walmart I need to go to. A couple of other places could do it sooner than that, but they couldn't take the truck with the Lance camper on the back, so it looks like I will be unable to leave the Quartzsite area until next Tuesday at the earliest.

Now, this oil appointment does temporarily end my normal freewheeling, devil-may-care, lackadaisical lifestyle, but there are worse places to stay than “Q,” the boondocking capital of the world, so I will “man up” and make the best of it but the thought of having to make plans will haunt me for the rest of the season.

I shouldn't have waited this long to change my oil; I normally do it every year when I'm in Denver, but this time, I put it off. I'm unsure who’s to blame for this oil change faux pas. But I do know my procrastination mental disorder is blaming it on my lack of ambition, my lack of ambition is blaming it on my indecisiveness, and my indecisiveness is blaming it on my never-ending procrastination completing the circle of life. I blame it on everything but me and have officially pardoned myself for everything I've done wrong since 1946.

One good thing is that this did clear up where I'll be heading when I leave Quartzsite. Since my oil change appointment is one o'clock in the afternoon, or 1300 hours if you're still wearing your dog tags, Parker is only 40 miles away from Lake Havasu. So, after my oil change, I'll be able to mosey on into Lake Havasu and find a place to boondock long before dinner time.

This also gives me more time in Quartzsite to do my laundry, walk around the flea markets, enjoy the beautiful sunny warm weather, and relax… It's a win-win situation.

This morning, I went into Quartzsite and walked around one of the flea markets. Instead of going back to the Plumosa Road boondocking area, I went back to Dome Rock because it’s a lot closer, and I like being near mountains.

there’s lots of flea markets in Quartzsite and they’ve got everything you could possibly need for an RV.

A camel that stands guard over Beer Bellys Bar…. Why not?

I’ve drank beer at Sweaty Betty’s bar outside the main gate at Homestead Air Force Base and eaten crabs at Dirty Nellie’s Crab Shack in Miami, but I’ve never had a cheese sandwich at Mean Maggi’s.

I don’t know why people want twirly things the put on their RV.

And I don’t know why people want banners to hang from their RV. I can possibly see flags, but putting all that up and down seems like a lot of trouble to me
