snow

Monday dawned snowy and pretty chilly, but at least the sun came out later in the day. But tomorrow night, it's supposed to start snowing again. Both Wednesday and Thursday are supposed to be the worst days when we're supposed to get four or five inches of snow, and the high temperatures are supposed to be in the mid-30s. But at least it's still looking okay for next weekend, with no snow predicted for down south in Trinidad Colorado, or Las Vegas New Mexico.

The snow just sprinkled for most of the morning and didn't build up on the road, so driving was just wet. Could I have made it down south to Storrie Lake State Park in Las Vegas, New Mexico? Absolutely! But did I need to? Nope. For many years I drove out of the mountains up and down Ute Pass to get to work at Fort Carson which was a 45 minute drive. And since I worked shifts, I made that drive back and forth sometimes at 7 a.m. and sometimes at midnight, quite often through snow deep enough to require chains on my four-wheel-drive truck. But I had to be there unless the Highway Patrol closed the roads.

But hopefully, nothing like that will be required on my part. With any luck, by the time I get as far south as Las Vegas, New Mexico, I'll be back in Fall weather again and out of these cold fronts coming through several times a week. The Winter hasn't even started yet, and I'm already tired of the cold weather. I'm badly in need of getting some sand in my shoes and relaxing under the limited shade of a Saguaro.

There was a dusting of snow today, so why am I talking about such a minor amount of snow? Because I obviously have nothing better to talk about.

The family jack-o’-lanterns, looking somewhat the worse for wear. Much like me, they have gotten old and shriveled, and their time of being useful has passed

The last Rose of summer hangs on in the garden knowing It’s days are numbered. The leaves of the rosebush appear to hold the Rose as If to protect it from the cold and snow.

A light snow this morning will get worse before it gets better.
