I’m going to miss Elephant Butte
My grandson had his first basketball practice yesterday, and according to his dad, he did really well. Of course, his dad is the coach, but I'm sure he doesn't let his personal feelings interfere with his coaching. Saturday will be a game where they will play another basketball team of 9 and 10-year-olds, and thank goodness basketball is played indoors, so the weather will have no influence on whether I go and take pictures or not.
I'm still mostly fooling around in the camper, preparing it for my winter travels. Most of what I'm doing is trying to lighten my load by taking things out that I feel I don't need. But that's pretty hard when you've already gotten rid of things you don't need twice in the past. It gets to the point where I'm getting rid of things that I might need but simply don't have the weight-carry capability.
I have to keep reminding myself that it's only the New Mexico state parks that are raising their prices, and there's still plenty of places to stay in New Mexico where I can boondock for free or a reasonable fee. But it's hard to break old habits, especially going to places like Elephant Butte State Park, which is a beautiful area with so much boondocking land available, and the City of Rocks State Park, where there are so many walking paths and hiking trails I could never get bored walking among the boulders.
But maybe I can find a few more places to stay in New Mexico that I enjoy. I know there are other places there, but I've spent so much time at the state parks that I've lost track of any other areas that would be fun to stay at. Hopefully, I'll be in the mood to do a little exploring and see what else is available in New Mexico.

Christmas cactus.
I don’t know why they call it Christmas cactus, It doesn’t look like a cactus, and it’s not blooming at Christmas.
But I’m not in charge of naming things so I just do what I’m told.
Abstract art… You would never guess that’s just another Christmas cactus.
